Post How To Place A Bid
This is an example thread for the fictitious author Sock Puppet.

The first step is to register for this board. (Please keep in mind that this is a new board as of Nov. 2009, and the memberships from previous auctions did not transfer over here.)

If you were interested in bidding on sock puppet's fic, you would first read the auction description information:

Author: Sock Puppet
Fandom: Harry Potter (This is the fandom Sock Puppet is writing for in this auction. He might write in other fandoms, too, but for this auction he's only committing to writing a Harry Potter fic. So I should not plan on issuing a challenge for a Stargate fic if I haven't first discussed it with Sock Puppet.)
Fanfic Link: http://sockpuppet.livejournal.com (This is where Sock Puppet's fics can be found. It is a good idea to take a look at his fics to make sure I like his style of writing and that he depicts characters in the way I want. This way, there will be no surprises when I see the final product.)
Offer: One (1) 2,500 word min. fic. (Sock Puppet is committing to writing a story that is at least 2,500 words long.)
Restrictions: No UC couples, no slash, no AU fics - must be consistent with canon. (This is where Sock Puppet lists his restrictions. Based on this, I know I should not expect him to write me a story which pairs Snape and Lupin as students at Harvard.)
Additional Details: I prefer writing Harry/Ginny or gen fics but I'm willing to write about other canon pairings, too. (This is where the author lists other information that might be helpful to me in deciding whether or not to bid. If I really don't like Harry/Ginny or gen fics, then I need to make sure I take a look at Sock Puppet's fics before bidding to be certain I will be happy with anything he might write for me.)
Special Offer: Once bidding hits, $40.00, I will donate $5 for every $5 bid placed here! I will also write a drabble for every bid placed over $75.00. (Special Offers are mentioned here and in the Subject Heading. This means Sock Puppet is willing to do something special to encourage bids. If you have any questions about the author's special offer, leave your question here for the author before you place your bid ("How long will it take you to write the drabbles? Will they be posted immediately, or will you be writing them after the auction ends? Can we issue prompts for the drabbles or will those be at your discretion? Do you have a cap on how much you will donate? If bidding hits $200, will you continue to donate $5 for every bid over $40?").

Once you decide to bid, Click on "Reply" below. That will bring up this screen:

#1 Type in your bid.
#2 Check the ticky-box that says "Notify me when a reply is posted" if you want to receive an email each time someone replies to this thread.
#3 Hit "Submit" to post the message with your bid.

Sometimes the response emails get caught by spam filters, so remember that it is your responsibility to keep watching the thread to make sure you are not outbid.

And if you haven't done so already, please read through these two posts (FAQs & New to the auction) to make sure you understand the entire auction process, from start to finish.

If you have any additional questions, hit "Reply" to this message and leave your questions here or you may send a message to majiklmoon or Gioia for additional help. :grin
