Support Stacie was organized in 2007 by a group of friends working together to raise the funds necessary for their mutual friend’s life-saving medical treatment. Support Stacie is NOT a non-profit organization or a registered 501c3 charity under U.S. tax codes. We are just a small group of friends trying to help one of our own survive.
If you know Stacie or are friends with someone who knows her, you will be familiar with the details of her story. If you do not know her or anyone close to her, then this may not be the best fundraiser for you. As much as we welcome the participation of anyone who is interested in helping, we ask you to keep in mind from the beginning that this is not a formal charity, and thus we are not going to be offering full disclosure online regarding the private details of Stacie’s life.
Stacie is a real person with a real family. She is extremely ill and both she and her family have suffered greatly as a result of her illness. The last thing we are willing to do is further invade her privacy and that of her family, even to appease well-intentioned and kind-hearted strangers on the internet. We have explained as many details as we can on supporstacie.com, the SupportStacie LJ Community, and on the auction board. But there are many personal facts about Stacie which we are not able to reveal to those who do not know her.
(If you are interested in getting to know her as a friend, there are ample opportunities, such as the online chats we host with Stacie, LJ, fandom and Twitter interactions, or the in-person, weekend-long "Meet & Greet" held each spring. Previous locations include Kansas City, MO and Nashville, TN.)
And so, again, we say: if you are not already acquainted with Stacie or with any of her friends, if you have a lot of questions about the personal aspects of her treatment or her life which aren’t already answered online and which you can’t easily find out as a result of an existing friendship with Stacie or someone who knows her, then this may not be the best fundraiser for you. We are deeply grateful to each of you Good Samaritans for your consideration and for your interest, but we don’t want to leave anyone feeling uncomfortable if knowing the personal details of Stacie’s life, finances or treatment (beyond that which is already posted) is necessary for your peace of mind.
